sanna : Reinforcing Imagination in the Art of Sanya Wong-Aram

Sanna is an exhibition of art works created by Associate Professor Sanya Wong-Aram from1963 to present. The majority of the art works on display are created using printmaking processes. There are also other art works exhibited in multi-media form. The main concept of the exhibition, which its title is derived from, can be seen through the atmosphere and the arrangement of the prints on the gallery walls. Furthermore, the major piece of art work, which is a large-scale woodcut print, may also yield the idea of this exhibition.  The artist achieves this by intentionally using sa??? (a Pali word, meaning perception of physical and mental objects which may function as ‘memory’) or recollection of past experience, to integrate with his current ideas about art, society, culture and politics. By working with this idea, the artist wishes to reinforce his own imagination in the working processes, and hopes the audience will feel the same way while viewing the complete work.

Associate Professor Sanya Wong-Aram is an artist-lecturer who has produced art works consistently since he graduated from Silpakorn University in 1969 and started teaching at the division of Art Education, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University after his graduation.  Associate Professor Sanya Wong-Aram is the first Thai artist to receive a scholarship fund from the Dutch government to study printmaking at Gerrit Rietveld Akademie, Amsterdam, Holland, and completed his postgraduate diploma in 1975.and completed his postgraduate diploma in 1975.and completed his postgraduate diploma in 1975.
