The Art Center of Chulalongkorn University is delighted to announce an exhibition of painting and mixed-media works that offer insights into what it means to imagine notions of the ‘self’ in terms of the physical body.

Featuring expatriate and Thai artists, Sensational Selves addresses questions of the physical self as opposed to metaphysical concepts of soul, mind, or, in Buddhist thought, atta. These artists raise critical issues, propositions and revelations about the matter of physical identity in a world of appearances; the capacity of the human body to represent sensation as the result of social experience and states of mind; and the place and relevance of the humanist tradition in visual art for local contexts.

The artworks in Sensational Selves are, by turns, provocative, subtle, contemplative and cerebral. However, the artists are essentially united by a concern to produce challenging images of the human form and engage the complexities of embodied subjectivity.

Monday-Friday: 9.00-19.00
Saturday: 9.00-16.00
Access: 7th Floor, Main Library, Chulalongkorn University

Sensational Selves will be accompanied by a satellite exhibition of works on paper by Michael Croft, titled Floor-Relation-Mirror, at Studio 307, Silom Galleria, Silom 19, Bangkok 10500. Floor-Relation-Mirror will run from the 3rd to 29th of June 2008 with an opening party on Saturday, June 14th, from 5pm, in partnership with Thavibu Gallery.
