Dynamic Convergences: Sociology and Art is a contemporary art exhibition born out of a collaboration between The Art Center, the Rotary Peace Center, and the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, all of which are organizations within Chulalongkorn University.

A result of the convergence of the two fields that have long been intertwined, the exhibition presents artistic interpretations of and responses to the concept of nonviolence as learned from a peace and nonviolence workshop held at The Art Center in August.

What is nonviolent action? What are its definition and principles? And in what form is nonviolence manifest? All these questions have long been discussed amid conflict. This project has invited eight contemporary artists to learn about the notions of peace and nonviolence and engage in dialogue with peace workers in order that they can create artworks based on their understanding. The art mediums featured in this exhibition include painting, photography, mixed media, video, and sound art.

Dynamic Convergences aims to present different perspectives on the topic of nonviolence, from social to historical, cultural, and behavioral dimensions, to bring about an understanding of peace and nonviolence. The audiences are invited to interpret the artworks, raise questions, and explore possibilities that they can adapt into their daily life.

Nonviolent actions exist in great variety. What this exhibition is trying to do is suggest new thinking as well as some of the nonviolent methods that can lead to the peaceful development of Thai society in the 21st century.
