The ‘Airport Link’ (Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link) is the rapid transit route that connects Bangkok’s suburban area, where the Suvarnabhumi Airport is located, to the heart of Bangkok. It shortens traveling time, therefore bringing about a new traveling strategy in addition to traditional modes of transportation: cars, express boats and trains. This strategy links the Ladkrabang community to central Bangkok. It becomes a new experience of centralization that leads to the making of this exhibition. This exhibition conveys the connection between the arts and cultural center of Bangkok and Thailand – The Art Center at the Center of Academic Resources of Chulalongkorn University, and the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The development of this connection has created the contemporary art network of academic institutions that drives the contemporary art society of Thailand forward.
Conceived by a group of faculty members of the Faculty of Architecture’s Fine Arts Department at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, the ‘Airport Link’ contemporary art exhibition is based on the idea that “diverse living spaces are connected by journeys much in the same way diverse tastes are connected by artistic aesthetics.” This show aims to present each artist’s outlook space, culture and ways of life in today’s society. Various mediums are used, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, video art, etc, with the belief they all share the same purpose: creating a new perception for the audience.
