Portraits of Light
By Jirapat Pitpreecha
At The Art Center, Center of Academic Resources, Chulalongkorn University
July 30 – September 1, 2012
Opening Reception: Monday July 30, 6-8pm
For the past 30 years, Associate Professor Jirapat Pitpreecha has been creating abstract paintings, using quick, spontaneous brushstrokes to portray his feelings towards his surrounding environment and society.
For his 10th solo exhibition, titled “Portraits of Light”, Jirapat has selected over 30 paintings created between 2009 and 2012 to tell his journey as an artist and an individual during these past four years. Inspired by both the cityscape and the countryside, his colorful canvases of different sizes reflect his emotions and imagination drawn from the atmosphere, light and colors he came to experience.
The artist chose simple words and phrases to name his paintings, giving a slight hint of where these images might have come from, yet leaving room for the viewer to use their own imagination to look at the works. Not only will the viewer get to be on the journey with the artist, they will also be allowed to relive the emotional experience the artist had with these places.
